Clinton: Portrait of Victory

Edit this page

Clinton: Portrait of Victory resembles a priceless sketchbook from the last century-a creation of a court artist touring America with an adventurous prince. It has the immediacy of daily life on a stately but rough journey. It also has the permanence of great portraiture.

Many pictures have been taken of Bill Clinton, but few like these. This is the private, visual diary of his campaign-the diary he doesn't have the time, or the objectivity, to compose himself.

    1. Bentley, an award-winning TIME photojournalist, covered Clinton early in the campaign, then approached him with the idea of recording the campaign from the inside. Clinton agreed. He gave Bentley unprecedented access.
